Cruel Beauty, by Rosamund Hodge Nyx has been destined to marry the evil ruler of her land. Her father had made a deal with the the Gentle Lord for his wife to bear children, however she died, which was not agreed upon. Now Nyx, who will be sent to marry him as part of the deal, was trained to kill him, and avenge her mother. When she arrives at the castle, she doesn't expect to meet who she meets, or love who she loves. Ignifex, the "beast's" name for himself, allows Nyx to guess his name every night, so that she will be free. However, she doesn't realize that this is binding him too. She falls in love with him, so unexpectedly, but still so right. But she still must carry out the promise to her family and avenge her mother's death. What can she do? What will she do? This is a retelling on Beauty and the Beast. Beauty and the Beast is probably my most favorite Disney Princess movies. However, this book was hard for me to get into. I usually read books this size in two to three days, however this one took me about five or six. I don't really know what it was, but the world was complicated for me to understand--it's a mix of Greek mythology and princess/kingdom-ish? I'm not sure. But I usually love retellings! Once I got into it, though, I loved the story. 3/5 stars.
