Secrets of my Hollywood Life, by Jen Calonita Kaitlin Burke is one of Hollywood's top actresses, starring in the hit show, Family Affairs. She's played Sam in this show since about age four, and has grown up being famous and always being watched. But she doesn't always want to be famous. Sometimes she just wants to be a normal teenager instead of a famous actress. Go to a normal school instead of having a tutor. Have real friends that aren't famous and won't gossip about you so they can be more popular. So Kaitlin gets her (normal) best friend to help her come up with a fake identity and go to a regular high school so she can get a taste of reality. But, unfortunately, Sky (Kaitlin's costar and enemy) has it out for Kaitlin--and she can't find out about Kaitlin's other identity. I really enjoy this series! It's a little older, about 2006 era, but it is really entertaining! The Wicked Will Rise, by Danielle Paige Amy Gumm is still in Oz, not doing too well at her assigned job: Take the Scarecrow's brain, the Lion's courage, and the Tin Woodman's heart, and kill Dorothy. She has only accomplished one thing, and needs all four to save Oz. This book follows Amy in her hideout from Dorothy and Glinda, theorizing (is that a word?) a way to make all of this happen. Meanwhile, she's becoming more dangerous than she has been; being taken over by darkness that she's not exactly sure she wants to get rid of. Amy needs to find her true self to defeat Dorothy, so is darkness really her? Could she become like Dorothy, the one thing she doesn't want? Find out! Mare Barrow is back--the Lightning girl. In this sequel to Red Queen, Mare and her companions are on a mission: collect all Newbloods, a nickname for the Red/Silver blood mutation. The only problem is, Maven, the nice guy-turned bad King, is after the Newbloods too, not to protect and train them, like the Scarlet Guard. No, he wants to take them, kill them or use them for war. The Scarlet Guard can't let Maven get them first. They recruit as many Newbloods as possible, each power being better than the last. But still, these untrained Newbloods have to fight in a war against the Silvers. Can they win, and make Reds equal? Glass Sword was really good! It had a lot of action, easy to get into. However, I liked Red Queen better, I think, just because it was a new world and new story to get into. But Victoria Aveyard has succeeded again in making a thrilling book. 5/5 |
